Case Number: 20012046

Date Reported: 10/6/20

Incident: Traffic Stop

Location: 3rd Avenue/Quincy Street, Alexandria, MN

Suspect Information:

Rafael Buenfil, Age 37 or Moorhead, MN

Case Details:

On 10/06/2020 at approximately 0216 hours, a Deputy with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a vehicle driving eastbound on 3rd Avenue in the city of Alexandria after the Deputy observed the vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. The suspect vehicle attempted to flee the Deputy and continued eastbound on 3rd Avenue. Due to the vehicle's speed and the driver's disregard for the public, the Deputy shut his emergency lights off to prevent a pursuit. The Deputy saw sparks and a bright flash east of Nokomis Street and proceeded eastbound to investigate whether the vehicle had crashed. A short time later, he found the vehicle had crashed near the intersection of 3rd Avenue and Quincy Street into a power pole, and the driver and passenger in the vehicle fled the scene. The passenger was caught a short distance from the vehicle. After the vehicle crashed, Deputies learned the vehicle was stolen out of Fergus Falls, Minnesota. Deputies were able to identify the male driver through their investigation, and a warrant is being requested for his arrest.

Officer: Deputy Corey Sammons, #242
