County Board Meeting January 4, 2022

The Douglas County Board of Commissioners has new leadership. As it does every year, a new chair and vice chair were nominated and voted for.

Commissioner Tim Kalina will service as chairperson in 2022. Commissioner Heather Larson will serve as vice chairperson. During the reorganization meeting Tuesday, January 4, commissioners also awarded Shutters the 2022 Vehicle Maintenance contract and the Echo Press the 2022 Legal Publication.

Board members approved committee appointments, established meeting dates and times for the new year and appointed planning commission members.

Following some additional routine business, the organizational meeting, chaired by Commissioner Jerry Rapp, concluded.

Sheriff’s Office

Sheriff Troy Wolbersen presented the board with two resolutions. One to accept a $14,840.00 2-year grant from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources for Off Highway Vehicle Safety and one with the Department of Public Safety for the 2022 and 2023 Violent Crime Enforcement Teams. This grant is for $420,000.00.

Social Services

Community Human Services Director Laurie Bonds requested approval for a contract with Central Minnesota Mental Health Center which will provide detoxification services for the county.

Public Works

Director and County Engineer Tim Erickson requested permission to advertise for and fill the Assistant Public Works Director/Assistant County Engineer position. That position will be left vacant by Scott Green who will be retiring in 2022.

Erickson also made two requests on behalf of County Surveyor Pat Veraguth. He requested and was given permission to testify at a legislative hearing for PLSS Remonumentation, and to travel out of state for a national conference.

Auditor/Treasurer

Vicki Doehling asked commissioners to approve two gambling permits. One for Ducks Unlimited to hold a raffle at Arrowwood in mid-February, the other for Vikingland Sponsors- Ducks Unlimited to hold a raffle on February 12, also at Arrowwood.

Finance

Finance Director Jill Frisell asked commissioners to approve payment of the bills.

Commissioners then reviewed their per diem requests and voted to approve payments.

The meeting adjourned. The next regularly scheduled meeting will be held January 18 at 821 Cedar Street.
