Incident: Vehicle Pursuit
Location: Interstate 94/MM110
Aaron Raymond Dombovy, age 24 - Moorhead, MN
On February 10th, 2017 at 6:09 AM the Douglas County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a vehicle parked in the right lane of Interstate 94. Upon arrival the driver was sleeping in the drivers seat. The driver was asked to move to the shoulder of the roadway and complied. The driver was asked to exit his vehicle and was interviewed momentarily. As the deputy and driver were walking back towards the patrol vehicle, the suspect ran to his car and fled westbound. A pursuit was initiated and went through the Burgen Rest Area and then back onto I-94. At that time the MN State Patrol joined the pursuit as the primary unit. The vehicle continued westbound and exited into Alexandria and then continued southbound on State Hwy 29. The suspect struck the curb at the roundabout and damaged the left front tire, but continued southbound. The Pope County Sheriff's Office had responded and were able to successfully use their spike strips on the suspect vehicle, deflating an additional two tires. The suspect stopped his vehicle on the opposing shoulder a short time later, just south of Pope County Road 28. The suspect then attempted to enter an occupied vehicle that had stopped on the shoulder but was taken into custody before he was able to get inside. During the pursuit the suspect was driving in opposing driving lanes and at speeds reaching 113 mph. This incident is still an active investigation.
After Dombovy was arrested and detained in the Douglas County Jail, the vehicle was impounded and brought to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. A warrant was secured by the West Central MN Drug Task Force to search the vehicle after a Douglas County K-9 unit conducted a sniff and indicated the presence of narcotics. During the search 77.5 grams of methamphetamines were located. Dombovy is currently being held on the following charges: 1st Degree Possession of a Controlled Substance, Flee in a Motor Vehicle, Reckless Driving, and other traffic offenses.
