Disease Prevention and Control: Douglas County Public Health provides education, immunizations, surveillance investigation and follow-up to prevent the spread of communicable diseases and to promote healthy lifestyles. More
Environmental Health: The Douglas & Pope Counties Environmental Health program protects the health of the public by enforcing health standards through licensing and inspection of restaurants, bars, mobile food units, school food services, children’s camps, hotels/motels, bed & breakfasts, resorts, campgrounds and public pools, as well as special events (such as fairs, festivals, community celebrations, etc.).
Family Health Programs: Public Health's team of nurses, dietitians, outreach staff and family health aides promote individual, family and community health and wellness.
Health Promotion and Education: Public Health professionals work with a variety of people, in many different settings, to address health concerns including chronic diseases, and injuries, as well as a variety of risk factors such as tobacco, alcohol, sedentary lifestyles, poor eating habits and excess weight.
Hospice: A team-oriented approach to expert medical care, pain and symptom management, and emotional and spiritual support expressly tailored to the patient’s needs and wishes.
Longterm Care Programs: Upon request, any person with long-term or chronic care needs is entitled to receive a screening, or LTCC assessment, regardless of their age or eligibility for Minnesota Health Care Programs. The long-term care team ensures persons are made aware of available home and community-based options so they can make informed decisions on where they want to live and helps persons and their families decide what kinds of services are needed.
Public Health Preparedness: Douglas County Public Health plays a key role in protecting, maintaining and improving the health of the citizens of Douglas County. Through partnership and communication, DCPH works closely with various health care, law enforcement, emergency response personnel and others to assess and respond to the health needs of the people of Douglas County.
Rainbow Rider Transportation: Rainbow Rider is the public transit system serving the West Central Minnesota counties of Douglas, Grant, Pope, Stevens, Todd, and Traverse with handicapped accessible buses as well as a Volunteer Driver Program.
